Maastricht Hospital hit by computer virus
A computer virus caused severe performance issues on the computer network of Maasticht Academic Medical Center. Urgent medical care is still provided, however, on some departments, patients should take longer waiting lists into account. Planned operations are carried out without any delay.
The hospital activated emergency procedures including anti-virus software. Network use by non-crital departments is minimized, in order to be able to provide urgent medical care.
Computer virusses are normally most succesful within an IT infrastructure if servers and workstations are not kept fully up-to-date or if employees are granted unnecessary (administrative) rights on the systems. Classity's network security scan aims to assist organisations to audit for the most important security vulnerabilities and to provide recommendations for necessary improvements. This can prevent disruptions such as at the Maasticht hospital.
